Custom Knives and Iron Fabrication Artwork

About Wroughty Ironworks

Who we are and why we do this

My steel work and knife making interest started when I was growing up on a small farm in South Georgia, where my dad was a welder/ fabricator. In turn, his father, my grandad, had been a blacksmith by trade. At an early age I watched my father repair farm machinery and rusted out boat trailers from the salt water. I watched my grandad rebuild an antique wagon wheel as one of his many restoration projects. These are just a couple of glimpses at how I experienced the art of welding and forging hot steel into working hardware and tools- (and knives are useful tools).

Fast forward a few years (or many years), I moved to North Georgia and there I was introduced to stock removal knife making by Joey Berry, one of the owners of Pop’s Knife Supplies along with his co-partners Allen Surls, Dirk Loots and Andy Roy i now  produce a combination of both stock removal and forged knives. Each type has its own advantages and characteristics. I continue to design new models along with recreating my original designs and designs by other makers with their approval.

One last note about what I believe to be a very important part of steel fabrication and knife making is the artistic element involved. I learned early in life from my mother about attention to detail and precision in the work that you do and love. She was a very talented seamstress and drapery fabricator whose attention to the most intricate of details was unsurpassed.
